“You should choose your lies more carefully,” she told him.
Sienna stumbled backward.
“You knew about this?”
“I learned six months ago,” Brooke replied. “Eleanor found me.”
My sister called me.
I watched her name appear on my screen and allowed it to ring twice before answering.
“You destroyed my wedding!” she shouted.
“No,” I said. “I documented what you did. You chose the date it became public.”
Then I told her to ask our father who had forged the documents transferring my shares.
The line became silent.
Inside the chapel, an investigator handed my father a preservation order while another took Arthur’s phone.
My father immediately blamed Arthur.
“This was his scheme.”
Arthur laughed.
“You forged Eleanor’s signature before I even joined the company.”
My mother struck him across the face.
Sienna looked between them in confusion.
“What shares?”
That was the final secret.
Vance Crest Holdings had never belonged entirely to my father. My grandfather’s trust guaranteed me a protected forty-one per cent interest when I turned thirty. Any fraudulent attempt to transfer those shares automatically suspended the voting rights of the trustees responsible.
I had turned thirty at midnight.
At 12:01 a.m., my attorney activated the clause.
While my family prepared for the wedding, their company accounts were frozen, their authority disappeared and I became the controlling shareholder.
My father finally called me.
His voice was suddenly gentle.
“Eleanor, come to the hotel. We can solve this as a family.”
“You told me I was no longer your daughter.”
“I was angry.”
“And now you are no longer in control of the company.”
In the background, I heard Sienna crying while investigators stood beside the ruined cake.
